Marko was transferred to the KBC Banja Luka a few hours after his birth because of respiratory distress and cyanosis, and after a few days to the University Children’s Hospital Tiršova in Belgrade.

In Tiršova Hospital, the diagnosis was confirmed - Marko was born with a complex heart failure and pulmonary artery atresia that required surgical treatment. After the conclusion of theClinical Case Conference in the third week of  his age, his first cardiac catheterization was done, but in this institution there were no conditions for surgery.

With the help of humane people, Marko arrived in Bologna when he was three months old, where he has been treated since then. Immediately upon arrival, after his diagnosis was confirmed, he underwent two catheterizations and the first open heart and blood vessel surgery. The second open-heart surgery was done when he was eleven months old, and the third when he was two years and three months old.

In total, to date, Marko has had three  heart and blood vessel surgeries and as many as seventeen catheterizations to expand the pulmonary arteries, which are constantly closed. He had multiple angioplasties and the introduction of a stent for stenosis between the stent, replacement of the right ventricle, pulmonary artery, replacement of the ascending aorta, plastic surgery of the pulmonary arteries.

His lungs were twice perforated during catheterization so that he was on breathing apparatus twice due to bleeding in his lungs.

The medical check ups are carried out every two to three months in Italy. Further treatment depends on his health conditions.

Otherwise, Marko has a very low immunity, so he is very often ill due to the tendency for infections, and due to his condition he has major problems with breathing.

Marko is being cared for by a single mother, unable to cover the expenses that his condition requires. He needs funds for travelling costs to Italy, then medicines and supplements, a pulse oximeter and an inhaler.
