Humanitarian Foundation BUDI HUMAN - Aleksandar Šapić
raises funds for Gavrilo Đurđević (2020).
Gavrilo is a sweet and gentle boy. He was born on 7 September 2020 in Kragujevac. The first three months he developed normally and progressed. No one could have guessed that something was going wrong. The parents noticed that Gavrilo stopped moving his arms and legs and was having difficulty with breathing. They immediately sought professional help.
It turned out, unfortunately, that it was a rare neuromuscular disease SMA1 (Spinal muscular atrophy type 1). It is an extremely severe and progressive disease that often has a fatal outcome. The disease is a consequence of a gene mutation and is manifested by the loss of basic life functions such as walking, digestion, swallowing and breathing. He is not able to hold his head, sit or crawl. .
Gavrilo got the first therapy (Spinraza) when he was 5 months old, which is available in Serbia. Fortunately, there has recently been an approved gene therapy (Zolgensma) that has given patients a chance to deal with this vicious disease. Gavrilo is one of them!
Therapy exists, but due to the price, Gavrilo's parents are not able to afford it and help their child, so they ask all generous and humane people to help their child go abroad and get it.
Funds are needed for gene therapy, rehabilitation, occupational therapies, travelling and accommodation costs.
