Minja is a sweet and gentle girl. She was born on October 6, 2019.
During the first three months, she progressed well. No one could have guessed that something was wrong.
The parents noticed that Minja gradually stopped moving her legs and arms, had difficulty breathing, and she ate less. They immediately asked for help. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a rare and extremely severe neuromuscular disease - Spinal muscular atrophy, type 1.
The disease is caused by gene mutations and is manifested by the loss of basic life functions, such as walking, digestion, swallowing and breathing. It does not affect the brain and cognitive functions.
When she was five months old, she had the first therapy available in Serbia. Thanks to Spinraza, Minja breathes, eats and swallows, but she still can't hold her head completely, lift it, she can't crawl or sit as well.
Fortunately, there is gene therapy, and Minja got a chance to fight a vicious disease. The only treatment she can have is treatment abroad. Medicine is very expensive, it is so expensive that parents can only dream of raising so much money on their own.
Minja also needs a cough assist device, orthopedic aids, physical therapy and funds to cover the travelling and accommodation costs for the treatment abroad. We believe that people of good will and a kind heart will help raise funds for medicine and treatment.
