Humanitarian Foundation BUDI HUMAN - Aleksandar Šapić
raises funds for Relja Stanković (2020).
Relja’s sister is only fourteen months older than him. The second pregnancy went quite smoothly, except that at one point the finding of beta HCG was slightly lower, but later it turned out that it was because the pregnancy was soon after the previous pregnancy and that the mother's body had not yet adapted to the new pregnancy. Relja was born two days before term, he was a healthy baby, weighing 3200g and he was 51cm long.
As he grew and progressed, his parents noticed that Relja did not make eye contact. When he was told, he looked either in the forehead or above his head. They also noticed that his eyes were running away and that he was not looking straight, but at his nose. Doctors said that it was still within physiological limits.
Otherwise, he is an advanced, cheerful and happy child. At about the sixth month, he took a sitting position alone, got to his feet and started crawling, all within two weeks, but his parents were still bothered by the condition of his eyes.
When he was six months old, they scheduled an ophthalmologist’s examination in Novi Sad after recommendation of a pediatrician. On examination, they learnt that Relja not only had the strabismus they suspected, but also a congenital cataract in his right eye with a reading of the diopter in his left eye. It was explained that Relja either could see very blurred and poorly in his right eye, or did not see at all due to cataracts. They were recommended for cataract surgery in Slovenia, in Ljubljana, which would be best done as soon as possible in order to save Relja's chance of ever developing vision in that eye.
This would be followed by exercises with a special education teacher-tiphlologist, ophthalmological therapy, and then strabismus surgery. If all that were done, it would be known if he would need diopter correction surgery. Relja also needs funds for ophthalmological examinations, medicines, medical consumables and for travelling and accommodation costs.
In order to preserve his eyesight, Relja needs your help in raising funds.
For Relja's better view of the world! Let's be humane!
