At the end of 2018, at the age of 26, both Milena’s kidneys suddenly failed without any previous health problems.

She felt ailments such as nausea, fatigue, headache, swelling of the face and legs. At that time she was working abroad and there they tried to save her life due to complications caused by accumulated fluid and high levels of urea and creatinine. After 21 days, she arrived in Belgrade and was admitted to the Military Medical Academy, where a biopsy,  unfortunately, did not show the cause of the kidney failure.

She was diagnosed with rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis.

A terrible diagnosis followed - life on dialysis, which means going to the hospital for dialysis every other day for 5 hours and being attached to the machine. Also, limited intake of liquids and food as well as constant fatigue.

Further testing abroad revealed that she had hemolytic uremic syndrome which led to kidney failure and required medication that would make transplantation possible.

Since there is no suitable donor in the family, and the fact that in Serbia there is no such medicine or possibility for transplantation, although she has been on the waiting list for several years, Milena decided to look for a chance for a new life at a clinic abroad.

She needs funds for specialist examinations, a kidney transplantation, medicines, travelling and accommodation costs during treatment.
