Description

Humanitarian Foundation BUDI HUMAN – Aleksandar Šapić

is raising funds for Veljko Stojković.

Veljko has been diagnosed with other specified degenerative diseases of the nervous system (G31.8 – specified degenerative disease of the nervous system), pervasive developmental disorder (F84.9), specific developmental disorder of motor function (F82), specific gastroenterological inflammatory conditions, metabolic disorder, and insomnia — all as consequences of an unknown disease currently being investigated by several scientific institutions in the United States.

Veljko’s first symptoms began at the age of three months, when feeding and sleeping difficulties appeared. His motor development progressed more slowly than expected. Month by month, new symptoms emerged, including involuntary movements. At the age of 10 months, regression of psychomotor development and loss of previously acquired functions were confirmed, leading to his first hospitalization in the rehabilitation department of the children’s hospital in Novi Sad.

An MRI revealed brain atrophy caused by a rare neurodegenerative disorder resulting from a genetic mutation.

Even before the diagnosis of brain atrophy was established, Veljko had already visited countless clinics and medical facilities. He has been hospitalized multiple times both in Serbia and abroad. He has undergone more than five general anesthesias, along with various invasive and diagnostic procedures. The most advanced genetic and laboratory testing has been performed, confirming only that he has an extremely rare disease, unknown in Europe and beyond.

As the brain atrophy has significantly affected swallowing and overall nutrition, a PEG tube was inserted to facilitate feeding. Based on his symptoms, and despite the absence of a formal diagnosis, Veljko has begun a complex treatment regimen involving medications, supplements, and a ketogenic diet.

His treatment takes place under strictly controlled conditions — in hospital, at home, and at school — according to a specialized one-on-one curriculum. This requires a daily schedule of therapies and rehabilitation according to a fixed timetable, seven days a week.

Funds are needed for continued treatment abroad, rehabilitation, translation of medical documentation, medical aids, medications, supplements, disposable medical supplies, travel expenses, and accommodation during treatment.

For Veljko’s fight — let’s be humane.
