raises funds for Mihajlo Kotrlja (2020)

Mihajlo was born prematurely in the 34/35th week naturally, and the reason for the premature birth was the mother's food poisoning  a week before the birth, which caused the baby to become infected too.

Mihajlo was intubated in the third hour after birth, in the tenth hour he had generalised convulsions as a result of cerebral haemorrhage, which were repeated several times in the following days, and on the third day he was transferred from the maternity hospital to the Mother and Child Institute, where he continued in the intensive care unit fight for the next month.

At the age of 6 months, he was diagnosed with epilepsy and West's syndrome, and at the age of less than a year, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (G80.0 Paralysis cerebralis spastica quadriplegica).

Until now, with various therapies and exercises, Mihajlo has been able to sit on his own, and at the age of 2 and a half to crawl, but due to a large spasm (hypertonia) in his lower extremities, Mihajlo still cannot stand or walk independently.

Mihajlo exercises regularly and tries hard, but the spasm does not decrease. After unsuccessful attempts to improve the condition with various therapies,  the experts advised  his parents  to go for SDR (selective dorsal rhizotomy) surgery in the USA, after which there is hope that Mihajlo will walk independently. The goal of SDR surgery is to improve walking ability by reducing muscle spasticity.

Until now, his parents managed to independently finance the treatment, but now they need the help of generous people to donate so that Mihajlo can make his first steps as soon as possible.

Funds are needed for surgery, for daily intensive physical therapy, defectology and speech therapy, orthopaedic-neurological rehabilitation, spa treatment, hydrotherapy, hippotherapy, specialist examinations and orthopaedic aids, travelling and accommodation costs during the treatment.
