In 2020, Željko was infected with Covid-19 during his stay abroad, and thus was in an artificial coma, having a purulent process on the left side of the chest that led to a septic condition. He was treated in intensive therapy, and after the cessation of sedation, he was diagnosed with quadriparesis. Severe polyneuropathy was also determined.

With the help of therapy and neurorehabilitation treatments, Željko mastered independent feeding with a cuff with assistance, due to the weakness of his hands. He sits much more stable and manages to correct his position on his own, he actively changes his position in a sitting position, which he could not do before, and with the help of a transfer board, he moves from the wheelchair to the bed and vice versa. He moves in a wheelchair, there are active knee movements of reduced amplitude, the weakness of the lower leg muscles and feet is still maintained, but there are contractions of the lower leg and foot muscles.

In order  to stand up and walk again, he needs to continue with intensive therapies and treatments.

He needs funds for neurorehabilitation, stem cell treatments, orthopedic aids, medicines, specialist examinations and for travelling costs.
