Nikola was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy (G71.0 Dystrophia musculorum progressiva Mb Duchenne).

He was hospitalized for the first time in 2016 at the Clinic for Neurology and Psychiatry for Children and Youth due to suspicion of dystrophinopathy, during which additional diagnostic tests and genetic analyses were performed. From the age of 10, he became confined to a wheelchair. In February 2024, he was included in a study conducted at the IMD, when from August 2024 he also received the Australian antisense drug therapy, where he was regularly monitored. The study was stopped in December 2024 due to insufficient effect of the drug.

Spa rehabilitation and physical therapy were also carried out, he used supplementation and had regular check-ups at the Clinic, but all this did not give the desired results, so Nikola is completely immobile and does not move any of his limbs.

Until now, his parents have financed the treatment, but due to the high costs, they need help  from all generous people’s donations.

Funds are needed for physical therapy, spa treatment, orthopedic aids, laboratory analyses, specialist examinations, supplements, innovative drugs, robotic neurorehabilitation, genetic therapy and stem cell therapy.
