In July 2017, due to a significantly increased number of leukocytes, Nikolina was admitted to the hospital when she was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (C91.0 Leukaemia lymphoblastica acuta), a high-risk form of the disease.

After 2 years of therapy, the disease was in remission. Unfortunately, in October 2025, a relapse occurred, a BCR/ABL positive form with changes in the karyotype. Treatment started again, after which severe febrile neutropenia occurred, and radiological findings indicated an invasive fungal infection of the lungs and brain (angiopulmonary aspergillosis). Complete antifungal therapy with high doses of corticosteroids was introduced, after which Nikolina's health  stabilized.

HLA typing indicated that Nikolina's younger brother is a matching donor, providing a possibility for a bone marrow transplant.

In order to go abroad for treatment as soon as possible, Nikolina needs help from generous people’s donations.

Funds are needed for continuing treatment abroad, specialist and control examinations, laboratory analyses, therapies, bone marrow transplantation, travel expenses and accommodation costs during the treatment.
