Jovana was diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder with delayed speech development and variable cognitive impairment caused by haploinsufficiency in the GABBR1 gene (encodes the protein for the GABA neurotransmitter). The disease is characterized by constipation and scoliosis in addition to cognitive impairment.

She was also diagnosed with mild mental retardation (F70 Retardatio mentalis levis), mixed specific developmental disorders (F83 Disordines evolutionis specifici mixti), and other functional bowel disorders (K59 Dysfunctiones intestinales aliae).

Due to serious problems with emptying the bowels, there are frequent abdominal pains, flatulence and general fatigue. Scoliosis and kyphosis progressively worsen and require constant controls and examinations. Continuous psychological and speech therapy treatments are also necessary.

Since the costs of treatment are high and her family cannot provide funds, the help of generous people’s donations is needed.
