In December 2015, a specialist examination during the pregnancy, Marija was diagnosed with a malignant breast tumor (C50.4 Neoplasma malignum mammae, quadrantis superolateralis).

In the same year, she underwent conservative breast surgery with sentinel lymph node biopsy. Due to positive surgical margins, a total mastectomy of the right breast was performed in February 2016. A follow-up PET-CT examination in March 2020 showed the presence of metastatic changes in the bones and mediastinum, after which treatment was started according to the protocol. Due to the progression of the disease, the therapy was changed several times. In October 2024, there was a progression of metastases in the bones and mediastinal lymph nodes and the appearance of multiple metastases on the liver. In September 2025, metastatic changes in the brain were discovered, after which Marija underwent first craniotomy and then gamma knife intervention.

A treatment plan has been proposed that gives good results in patients with HER2-positive breast cancer that has metastasized. To carry out treatment according to this protocol, as well as for additional diagnostic examinations abroad, she needs considerable funds, so the help of all humane people’s donations is needed.
