In December 1999, Darko was admitted to University Clinical Center of Serbia in a serious general condition, life-threatening, after polytrauma caused by a traffic accident. The following severe injuries were found: open comminuted fracture of the left lower leg (S82.7 - Fractura apperta cruris sin. comminutiva), fracture of the right femur, supracondylar (S72.3 - Fractura femoris dex. supracondylaris), open impressive fracture of the skull, parietal left (S02.0 - Fractura cranii impressiva regionis parietalis sin. apperta), hematoperitoneum and rupture of the small intestine (S36.8 – Hematoperitoneum et ruptura mesoi intestini tenui), thrombosis of the arteries of the left leg after contusion, with ischemia of the foot (I74.3 – Thrombosis arteriarum cruris sin. post contusionem).

During the emergency treatment, Darko underwent neurosurgical, abdominal, orthopedic and vascular operations, including revascularization of the left leg, in order to save circulation and preserve limb function. It was established that the main arteries on the right leg are infarcted and that on the left leg there is post-contusion thrombosis of the proximal part of the crural arteries. Due to the present retroversion, there is a significant risk of prearthrosis of the hip, and varus deformity is a risk for the development of prearthrosis of the knee joint, which is why correction of the right femoral shaft with the use of intramedullary osteosynthesis is indicated.

The continuation of treatment abroad requires significant financial resources, which Darko is unable to provide, for that reason he appeals to all humane people to help with their donations so that the operative treatment can be performed as soon as possible.

Funds are needed for operative treatment of multidimensional deformation of the right femur, specialist examinations, laboratory analyses, as well as for travel and accommodation costs during the treatment.
