As a consequence of severe perinatal brain injury, Aleksandra was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (G80 – Paralysis cerebralis).

She was born prematurely at 28 weeks of gestation, weighing only 1,100 grams, after a pregnancy marked by serious complications (Lupus nephritis, epilepsy, and high blood pressure in her mother). The first 2.5 months of her life were spent in an incubator, with diagnoses of birth asphyxia, respiratory distress syndrome, and periventricular hemorrhage.

The disease was officially confirmed in 2001 at the Institute for Health Care in Belgrade. Since early childhood, Aleksandra has faced significant motor difficulties: increased muscle tone, limited joint mobility, foot deformities, hip and knee contractures, as well as problems with coordination and balance. Over the years, her condition has required continuous rehabilitation and multiple hospitalizations.

From 2001 to 2015, Aleksandra was actively treated at the Special Hospital for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Neurology in Belgrade (Sokobanjska), where she underwent intensive programs of physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, special education treatments, and psychological monitoring. Over time, she achieved progress in speech, writing, reading, and independence in daily activities, but her motor limitations remain permanent and require ongoing treatment.

Today, Aleksandra moves with the help of a wheelchair and is independent in transfers, but she experiences severe neck pain, numbness in her hands, and chronic discomfort that further complicates everyday functioning. Due to her primary diagnosis and accompanying deformities, surgical treatment abroad is necessary, followed by a long rehabilitation process in a specialized institution.

Her family is unable to provide the funds needed for continued treatment and is appealing to all kind-hearted people to help Aleksandra get a chance for a better and more dignified life.

Funds are needed for the surgical procedure abroad, postoperative rehabilitation, spa treatment, purchase of orthopedic and medical aids, medications, accommodation expenses during hospital treatment, and travel costs.
