Description

Humanitarian Foundation BUDI HUMAN - Aleksandar Šapić

raises funds for Nemanja Ljutić (2017).

Nemanja was born on 30 September 2017 in Belgrade, he was a  healthy baby born in term.

In 2018, when he was six months old, he had a urethral operation and during the postoperative recovery in the hospital, he was infected with Measles virus (smallpox). Since he was a healthy baby, he had no problems with immunity, he overcame smallpox without any problems and after two weeks he fully recovered.

After that, Nemanja had no other  problems with  health, he was a healthy and extremely happy child. In September 2020, he started kindergarten, where he quickly adapted and fell in love with his new friends and teachers.

However, that happiness did not last long…

At the end of October, he got febrile seizures due to extremely high temperature and after a few days he started to lose his balance while walking and then atonic / myoclonic seizures began. During clinical examinations in the hospital, he was infected with the corona virus and his condition began to deteriorate at an incredible rate. After a few days, he was  no longer able to  sit or stand, his neck was stiff, his gaze went to the side, he became nervous and tense, and all these were accompanied by constant crying.

During his stay in the hospital for 2 months, all possible analyzes were performed, such as tumors, metabolic, autoimmune and genetic diseases, to which he was negative. Lumbar puncture revealed measles antibodies in the cerebrospinal fluid. Based on that, he was diagnosed with - SSPE (Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis), as a consequence of a direct infection with measles.

Nemanja is currently on antiviral therapy and is in home treatment. He is immobile, has spasms in his arms and legs, does not gaze following  but reacts to sound. He currently has a nasogastric tube that was preventively installed so that he would not suffocate with food.

There is no specific cure for this disease and the prognosis is not good, but, considering the age, there are chances for his recovery. Parents found a chance in Turkey, where stem cells are transplanted. After checking all the documentation, the doctor recommended that this treatment could help him.

There are not enough funds needed for stem cell treatments abroad, for rehabilitation, specialist and control examinations, speech therapy and special education treatments, electrical stimulation, feeding therapies, sensory integration, for travelling and accommodation costs.

For Nemanja’s better future! Let's be humane!

Let's help Nemanja!
